The body of the late Tooro King, Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, arrived at Humura Primary School Playground in Kyegegwa District on Friday afternoon, September 4, 2026

The remains of the 34-year-old monarch—who passed away from aggressive cancer in the United States on August 27—were airlifted from Entebbe International Airport aboard a Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) helicopter. Accompanied by the Queen Mother, Best Kemigisa Akiiki, the aircraft touched down between 2:00 PM and 2:30 PM

Hundreds of emotional subjects, cultural leaders, and local residents gathered at Humura Grounds to weep and pay their final respects as the casket was placed onto a red carpet layered with traditional mats and animal skins.

From the Kyegegwa stopover, a massive road convoy was formed to journey through Kyenjojo along the highway. This layout allowed thousands of lining subjects to glimpse the procession as the King made his final journey to the Karuzika Royal Palace in Fort Portal ahead of his burial on September 12, 2026

The official burial schedule and the procession details for the late Tooro King, Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, have been released by the Tooro Kingdom organizing committee. The final rituals will culminate on Saturday, September 12, 2026

Saturday, September 12, 2026 (Burial Day):

• 8:00 AM: Members of the public and ordinary mourners must be seated at St. John's Cathedral in Fort Portal City.
• 8:15 AM: The hearse carrying the remains of King Oyo will depart Karuziika Palace.
• 8:30 AM: The body will lie in state at St. John's Cathedral for less than 45 minutes for final public respects.
• 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM: The final church funeral service will officially take place. Speeches will be strictly limited to just four people (including the Queen Mother and Princess Ruth Komuntale).
• 1:00 PM: Mourners will escort the body on foot on a 6-kilometer trek from the cathedral to the final burial grounds.
• 2:00 PM: King Oyo will be laid to rest at the Karambi Royal Tombs (Amagasani) on the Fort Portal–Kasese highway. Tooro customs strictly forbid kings from being buried in the evening. Public access to the inner tombs will be heavily restricted to authorized traditional custodians and the royal family
